What happened to X’s own card validator?
X’s Card Validator stopped showing link previews in 2022. The way to see a card on X itself is to paste the link into a new post and look at the preview before posting; this tool shows what X will read without posting.
Which tags does an X card need?
twitter:card sets the card type: summary (small square image) or summary_large_image (wide image). For the title, description and image, X uses twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image, and falls back to og:title, og:description and og:image when those are missing.
What size should the card image be?
For summary_large_image, use a 2:1 image of at least 300 × 157 pixels (1200 × 600 looks sharp) under 5 MB. A summary card shows a square crop, at least 144 × 144 pixels.
Why doesn’t my link show a card at all?
The usual causes: the page has no twitter:card or og tags, the image URL is relative or blocked by robots.txt, or X cached an older version of the page. Fix the tags, then check the preview in a new post again.
